I've waited all this time to get myself another car. Then on the way home on tuesday on the motorbike some numpty in a Porsche Cayman pulled out on me on a roundabout. The bike hit the rear quarter. I didn't. I sailed straight over the back of the car and tumbled down the road like a rag doll. Prob for the best. Glad it was a Porsche with a low back to be honest. The bike is absolutely ruined. I think it's the Yamaha equivalent of a "long front". Just be a bit careful as I recently bought one from Halfords which was meant to fit the vauxhall engine. Probably nothing like as fast as Paul M or George (who I bumped into at the start - 27000 riders, what's the odds of that?!) but I'm no cyclist and it was my first go at the event and I was really pleased to make it to the end. It was a great event to do, the last 20 miles or so were really hard going as my legs didn't want to pedal up any more hills, and I didn't manage to cycle up Ditchling Beacon (sorry Mick P) but I did ride up all the other climbs.

If I've learnt anything - other than don't do 54 miles on a pedal bike, it's:
- I am faster than a unicyclist
- Downhill = good, uphill = bad
- Age and weight have little bearing on how quickly you can go and whether you can ride up the hills
- Dodgy costumes, tutus and tinsel are clearly 'go faster' accessories. Well they were when they were going past me anyway

Thanks to all those who voted for me in the board elections (if anyone did!) and congratulations to the returning and new members.

Nick - Pembrey is great as a circuit, local officials were all friendly and helpful, but I must echo Fesey's comments on the showers and shower block in general. That is so bad that I would think twice about camping at the circuit again! Maybe the next club wide collection should be towards upgrading these facilities for the benefit of all racers and their families.

Steve H

Charlie, are you still in Bridgend if so I can drop them round

The only downside is the showers etc. A cold shave, because there is no hot water to any handbasin, followed by a scalding hot shower where one has to hug the wall for the water to reach you, really is quite poor. Only having one of two showers working is not acceptable either. Considering it would cost about 1k to remedy this once and for all shows there is no excuse. As present these must be the worst facilities at any circuit we use, although to be fair not as smelly as Spa! But hey ho thats life and racing! Plus why did we have to show race passes to get onto the circuit for testing? Not sure about the logic there. Fesey.

Charles

Steve - if they are black Mechanix gloves, then they are mine - thanks!

Bill

What a great weekend, despite my fuel leakage. Megas:It is now well over a year since most of us had MMM do the latest mods to
the Tran-X gearboxes - with a very few exceptions, I believe they have performed
impeccably since then, until recently - they now seem to be showing their
age. We give these 'boxes a lot of punishment and I would venture to
suggest that anyone who has now run one for more than a season or so should be
seriously considering a "precautionary rebuild" - we now have four weeks until
the next race and after that the calendar gets a bit hectic again, so now may be
the time. It seems that we (Megas) should also be considering clutch
replacement. You could wait for your 'box or clutch to fail at the next
race, but you all know that MMM's capacity to carry replacements to - and fit
them at - a circuit is limited, so I would suggest that you resist that
temptation, please. Also note that failures on-track can lead to not only
lost races but knock-on damage. My own gearbox failure in qualifying on
Saturday could almost certainly have been avoided by a precautionary rebuild in
which very few new parts would have been needed but instead I put a hole through
the side of the casing and mangled most of the internals. Clutch failures
can also do a lot of damage to, for example, the bell-housing.FYI, I'm
kicking myself about my 'box - I had discussed a re-build with MMM just two
weeks ago and actually had the car booked in for it to be done next

Run one foot wide and you get your tooth fillings shaken out and your car junked. Otherwise I felt it was a terrific track, nicely challenging and good (in most parts)run-offs. I'd been fighting a virus and was not quite up to it, but it was an enjoyable and social few days. Thanks everyone, see you at Brands.

Well Done Flick and Adam for 1st wins and Thanks to Graeme for the experience of racing with a championship leader - my first time up there with you lot, shame it was short lived firstly to engine failure secondly to my incompetence! about the weekend's racing, but the circuit. As many of you know, I am a
director of Pembrey circuit and, as it happens, its next board is meeting on
Wednesday, two days time. And I would welcome all your feedback about what
you liked and what you didn't like, especially as a good many of you were there
for the first time.Your opinions about the actual layout may not be too
relevant, since we're pretty much stuck with that, nor the location,
ditto. Unless these somehow impinge on your opinion: if, for example, you
dislike the distance you had to drive to get there but would do so again because
you loved the layout, that would be relevant; or if, conversely, you felt that
you would not drive that far again because the facilities were lacking (which?)
that would also be relevant. But your opinions about the more trivial
items may be more relevant since those may be things that we may be able to do
something about. Eg. the cafe/bar/food, the toilets, the staff (friendly
and helpful, or otherwise?), etc. etc. and I would especially like to hear if
any of those things may influence your choice to go there again, eg. "I may be
less inclined to race at Pembrey again because the showers were cold," or "I
would like to go again because the security staff were so helpful," etc.
etc.Whatever. Good or bad. Please do drop me a line, here.

BishAgain

It's not the first time that DL has burnt his fingers! Firstly Thanks to MMM for replacing my blown head gasket after I cooked my engine following a incy wincey Bishing of the Chairman's botty (sorry, my fault) All that work in vain as upon starting the engine, it sounded sick as I felt at the time and was deemed bin fodda :-( 10 minutes into my sobbing Andy Mc came over and asked, 'How well do you know Chris Fox?, he has had to leave and will not now be doing race 2, perhaps he will loan you his engine?' I called Chris and left a creeping message on his voice mail. Within 30 minutes Chris rang back and said, 'yes, you are welcome to borrow the engine, let me know how you get on!' With about 90 minutes to spare the MMM team, helped by Mega Driver David Shaw changed my engine over and finished just as I was called to Parc Ferme. I had a great race thanks to the exceptional efforts and support of all the aforementioned. I really cannot believe there is another racing club that would have made this feat possible. I would like also to thank all those that voted for me in my successful bid for a place on the Board. Congrats also to Roger Ford! Commiserations too, to the other very capable nominees. My Pembrey experiences were typical of the camaraderie displayed at every meeting in this club and that's why I wanted a chance to put something back. I promise to do just that!!

Congratulations

Flick on her first win, Adam on his first win on UK soil, Coyote on finally running out of excuses. Tim GO on his first Megas pole. Well done to all of the front runners. Well done to the re-elected and newly elected board members (I voted for you, honest).

Commiserations

Andy Sagar - hope the damage is not too bad, glad to see you were physically unhurt, just wallet pain. Cat Funt two out of two is very unlucky.

Apologies

Tim GO for having him lug tons of equipment to Pembrey and me not use it. Jenny for being a helpless victim of my last lap lunge at Woodlands.

Thanks

Welsh Sports & Saloons for two great races. BARC and Pembrey for helping with the logistics of doing back to back races. Steve & Yo for making my guest appearance in WS&S possible and for undertaking the not inconsiderable task of feeding me all weekend. Coyote and Andy Sagar for PB'ing and refuelling duties. Andy Mac and the team for all their help in diagnosing and fixing my fuel pump issues. BARC Marshalls and Officials for managing to get my wallet back to me after it fell off the car boot on the grid. Gail Rockey for putting on a splendid spread over the weekend. The Bish for arranging another great weekend's weather. Last but not least, the Grads Club for putting on such a fantastic weekend's racing.

Apologies if I've forgotten anyone. I'll probably blog once the car is away.
