How the other half lives "... top end rebuilds (2K) and full rebuilds (4K) ... You can get away with an engine rebuild every 2 years I think although it is more common to do it once a year, more often if you're rolling in it ... Gearbox rebuild is around £350 and should last a season." A season?? Mine's not been touched in five years of racing! Sounds like some of those guys spend more on engine rebuilds than some of us spend on an entire year's racing.

Cadwell timetable change: If you
have entered, you should soon receive a revised timetable in the mail from BARC
which shows some slight changes (which have not, as yet, made it into BARC's
on-line timetable): - First practice at 9am is now Classics
only
- Supers-only practice is at 9.50
- Megas practice brought forward from
11.10 to 10.45
- Supers qualy race (also for Megas, if necessary) is
race 1 at 12.05 (20 min race)
Each of our classes' main races is re-timed for 25 minutes
instead of 20 minutes (hurrah!)
- Classics-only race is scheduled for 12.40
- Supers at 14.45
- Megas at 16.00
Thanks to BARC for deciding to combine the two poorly attended
MG races and thus gain the time for Supers(/Megas) to have a stand-alone qualy
race and longer races for all. (Note that the qualy race has
not been extended)

If it is just to get an MOT could you not wire a completely separate small 12V battery to a normal pump
just make sure it is isolated from the car electrics

Bob,
would a 12V system not work at all or just be feeble ? The MOT probably doesn't say how well the washers have to work.

This is a non caterham technical request.
I have a 1953 Ford Anglia which I am preparing to take to The Goodwood Revival Meeting on 20th Sept. It has failed its MOT as there are no screen washers - DVLA confirm I must definitely have them -it has passed on earlier occasions but not this time. The electric system is 6v so standard installation kit won't work. Do you know if it is possible to still obtain a hand operated pressure version and if so where.
There is a historic link here as the early prototypes of the Lotus 7 were built up from these cars!!!!!Its only 12.5 HP so not raceable!!!!
I await any advise with interest - call me if easier 07811-452232

Exactly. If you said "Shunty's Welsh, so he must sh*g sheep", that's prejudice (even if he actually does) and offensive to all Welsh and thus could technically be illegal racism. If you said "Shunty sh*gs sheep - I know because we shared one", that's either a lie or also illegal - since you would both have committed an offence under the Sexual Offences Act.

Don't you just love euphamisms, for example where "cuddly" really means "fat as f**k"... Yes, yes, beastly, tuck shop, blah blah blah fatty :-))
Does that mean that if I were, hypothetically, to say "Shunty sh8gs sheep", that would be ok because I know him and could potentially believe that he does? Of course if I chose to say/write such a thing he may choose to sue me for libel or slander depending on whether I wrote it on a forum or said it to him in person, but it would not be prejudice per the below definition... :-p

The important part of the definition of discrimination is perhaps in the word "prejudice", suggesting "pre-judge". To say, "I don't like people with a physique tending towards largeness due to them spending too much time at the tuck shop and they shouldn't be allowed to race with us since they are unattractive" would be to pre-judge someone and to discriminate against them on the basis of their stature; it is therefore fattist and not acceptable. To say, "I find Bunter unattractive" would be a matter of personal opinion, possibly unkind, but not of itself discriminatory.

Attention all Northerners (and others) - Extra race
at Croft in Nov? BARC are again putting on "winter series" races
at Croft on the weekend of 1/2 November, and have asked whether there would be
enough interest to put on a Graduates all-comers (all classes) race, which could
be open to anyone with a Grads spec car - for example, anyone who is considering
joining Grads next year, including drivers from this year's Roadsports and
Academy.
If you would be interested in entering (I have no details of
race duration(s) or entry fees yet, but I would expect them to be reasonably
attractive), please drop me a
line.

Not sure what BARC will consider the best format if it's a Supers-only qualy race. The slowest dozen perhaps? And if it's Megas and Supers, maybe the slowest eight from each?

Cadwell
entries: Here's the fully up to date listing from BARC. If
you thought you had entered but you are not on this list - or if
you have withdrawn and are on the list - please contact Nicola
at BARC (01264 882200) ASAP, and me.
The maximum that can practice is 33
cars. And max 28 to race. So Supers and Classics will have their own
exclusive practice sessions and Supers will have their very own qualy race (or
combined Supers/Megas qualy race in the unlikely event of us getting
more than 3 late Mega entries), we hope. So watch here for a slightly
amended timetable.
