How the other half lives "... top end rebuilds (2K) and full rebuilds (4K) ... You can get away with an engine rebuild every 2 years I think although it is more common to do it once a year, more often if you're rolling in it ... Gearbox rebuild is around £350 and should last a season." A season?? Mine's not been touched in five years of racing! Sounds like some of those guys spend more on engine rebuilds than some of us spend on an entire year's racing.

Roger on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 21:32:14

The revised final were waiting for me when i got home.

That's brilliant! My favourite track (spa is on my to-do-list!) and the perfect quali/race scenario! Can't wait!

Dave Pearson on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 19:42:08

Cadwell timetable change:
If you have entered, you should soon receive a revised timetable in the mail from BARC which shows some slight changes (which have not, as yet, made it into BARC's on-line timetable):
- First practice at 9am is now Classics only
- Supers-only practice is at 9.50
- Megas practice brought forward from 11.10 to 10.45
- Supers qualy race (also for Megas, if necessary) is race 1 at 12.05 (20 min race)
Each of our classes' main races is re-timed for 25 minutes instead of 20 minutes (hurrah!)
- Classics-only race is scheduled for 12.40
- Supers at 14.45
- Megas at 16.00
Thanks to BARC for deciding to combine the two poorly attended MG races and thus gain the time for Supers(/Megas) to have a stand-alone qualy race and longer races for all.  (Note that the qualy race has not been extended)

I am retiring then ! i cannot put my foot all the way down as i am unable to reach

P on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 18:12:18

Got mine too for Cadwell but shows first Quali race for Supers 20 Mins and rest 25 min ?

P on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 18:10:39

Just got my amended Cadwell finals. All races now 25mins.. looks like the classics and the supers are going to share the minutes we missed out on in Megas..

Andrew Ennis on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 17:59:29

Of course it took Dave and I a few years to learn how to put the pedal all the way down, it's just something all us rookies have to learn !

MatthewG on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 16:56:36

Loved that vid! LMFAO!!!

Dave Pearson on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 13:17:45

We could always ask him to become Honorary President of the Driving Standards Committee??? His technique seems flawless :-)

Jonathan Miller on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 13:08:59

Now I know why I'm not winning - you have to put the pedal all the way down!

Terry Palmer on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 12:59:35

Excellent clip Jonathan, and some very good advice for Grads rookies in there, I reckon!

Nick Frost chairman at graduates dot org dot uk on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 12:39:55

It would seem that Genghis Adolf Hippo Barlow will not be JEB's new son's name. So much for suggestions on a postcard... :-p

Coyote on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 11:57:20

Obviously you are all bored with your Caterhams - I have been inundated with excellent advise-Thank you all very much -I think I am now sorted -That's the power of Forum. Have a good one at Cadwell and hope the weather is better than today!!! Bob

Bob Wilson on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 11:46:28

Anyone used Dan Amon as a driving coach? Just been watching his videos, and he comes across as being pretty clued up

Dan Amon

Jonathan Miller on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 11:39:01

Bob, could you just keep a waterpistol full of screenwash under the dash?

Bill on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 11:25:23

Bob, my morris minor has a hand operated pump, try something like this here. Manual screen wash pump. only £10quid

h_____ (or hugh if you prefer) on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 11:03:44

...or just pop the screen out for the MOT. I've heard of people doing that if they fail because of a crack or stone chip....but then i am from Peterborough...

Dave Pearson on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 10:24:51

If its quiet in your office and your network connection is fast it's great to see this circuit again!

Mark H on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 09:59:19

If it is just to get an MOT could you not wire a completely separate small 12V battery to a normal pump
just make sure it is isolated from the car electrics

Gareth T on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 09:06:58

Bob, would a 12V system not work at all or just be feeble ? The MOT probably doesn't say how well the washers have to work.

Bunter on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 08:55:50

Hand operated pressure sprayer here

Congrats to Jeb - but I'm struggling to figure out what his head was doing up there in the first place.

Roger on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 08:53:10

Congrat's to Jeb :) 7LB seems a little light for Jeb ! Should it read 17LB inc head

P on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 08:39:11

This is a non caterham technical request. I have a 1953 Ford Anglia which I am preparing to take to The Goodwood Revival Meeting on 20th Sept. It has failed its MOT as there are no screen washers - DVLA confirm I must definitely have them -it has passed on earlier occasions but not this time. The electric system is 6v so standard installation kit won't work. Do you know if it is possible to still obtain a hand operated pressure version and if so where. There is a historic link here as the early prototypes of the Lotus 7 were built up from these cars!!!!!Its only 12.5 HP so not raceable!!!! I await any advise with interest - call me if easier 07811-452232 Bob Wilson -PS have a good weekend at Cadwell

Apology accepted

Hagar The Horrible on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 01:14:17

Just got the following text from JEB - surprisingly well spelt for him, he must have had one of the nurses proof read it :-p. Anyway congratulations JEB, Maggie & family - 2 boys now.

"Baby boy :o) no name yet (suggestions on a postcard). Baby and mum are perfect. Very proud of mum she managed natural birth despite 7lb 13.5oz weight and his dad's massive head."

Andrew Smith on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 00:51:21

I apologise if i offended any vikings

Mike.iamnotreallyaviking.com mike.rowland@mdr-testing.co.uk on Friday, September 05, 2008 at 00:16:18

I can't help thinking we've strayed from the point somewhat. One of said points was that we might offend people casually observing the forum. No chance of that happening though.

Hmmmm on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 23:31:49

Exactly. If you said "Shunty's Welsh, so he must sh*g sheep", that's prejudice (even if he actually does) and offensive to all Welsh and thus could technically be illegal racism. If you said "Shunty sh*gs sheep - I know because we shared one", that's either a lie or also illegal - since you would both have committed an offence under the Sexual Offences Act.

on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 18:53:08

Hey, Is anyone staying at the Bungalow Park In Domaine de Chodes- Malmedy for Spa??

Jen on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 18:42:58

Don't you just love euphamisms, for example where "cuddly" really means "fat as f**k"... Yes, yes, beastly, tuck shop, blah blah blah fatty :-))

Does that mean that if I were, hypothetically, to say "Shunty sh8gs sheep", that would be ok because I know him and could potentially believe that he does? Of course if I chose to say/write such a thing he may choose to sue me for libel or slander depending on whether I wrote it on a forum or said it to him in person, but it would not be prejudice per the below definition... :-p

Coyote on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 18:34:39

Bunts get your coat ! lord that is not a coat it is 2 man tent

Hell on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 18:01:32

After reading that - i think i'd rather be Super than Viking........... maybe we could have a SuperViking class, on slicks.....no windscreens and definitely no 'Happy' races..........

MikeR mike.rowland@mdr-testing.co.uk on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 17:19:12

Get your coat Bunts - looks like you've pulled!!!!

how unexpected! on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 17:18:52

bunty cuddly....that's like suggesting the Hippo is svelte......

. on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 17:08:47

You lot make me laugh! after reading those last few comments I had a little giggle to myself! :) I love the overall attitude of this club :)

Oh and Bunty - your lovely, nothing wrong with being cuddly ;)

Jen on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 17:01:43

Classic, excellent; timeless; traditional; serving as a model (in art and literature); of or pertaining to Greek and Roman antiquities
Super, over, above; superior in quantity or quality
Mega, large, big, Bunty
Viking, one of the Scandinavian seagoing peoples that raided the northwestern European coast in the 8th-10th centuries

A new racing class is born!!

PCBish on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 16:47:07

err...the vikings did not actually breed per se.....more like raped and pillaged....

.. on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 16:14:45

Next we will be saying Scousers don't steal cars........oops....too late :-)
and lay off the Northerners - we are the best, bred from Vikings. Fact.

MikeR mike.rowland@mdr-testing.co.uk on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 16:10:07

Thanks for that Mrs Bunter.

. on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 15:45:51

The important part of the definition of discrimination is perhaps in the word "prejudice", suggesting "pre-judge". To say, "I don't like people with a physique tending towards largeness due to them spending too much time at the tuck shop and they shouldn't be allowed to race with us since they are unattractive" would be to pre-judge someone and to discriminate against them on the basis of their stature; it is therefore fattist and not acceptable. To say, "I find Bunter unattractive" would be a matter of personal opinion, possibly unkind, but not of itself discriminatory.

on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 15:37:43

Quite, what a jolly nice chap of totally acceptable proportions :-)

DiploBish on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 15:22:30

I heard that.

You're all beastly to me. I'm off to the tuck shop.

Bunter on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 15:18:02

I am now aware of two "missing" Mega entries for Cadwell (Bazza and OJ) - we now need just one more to get the Megas a qualy race!

NF chair on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 15:02:49

I think that expecting the entrants to be reasonably attractive is a bit discriminatory, too. Why shouldn't Bunty enter if he wants to?

Roger on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 14:36:02

"Northerners" .....that's not very PC, do you mean people norff of Watford?

Anyway all I wanted to say was I'm entered for Cadwell or so I thought, so that's one more Mega space gone.

Baz on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 14:01:44

Attention all Northerners (and others) - Extra race at Croft in Nov?
BARC are again putting on "winter series" races at Croft on the weekend of 1/2 November, and have asked whether there would be enough interest to put on a Graduates all-comers (all classes) race, which could be open to anyone with a Grads spec car - for example, anyone who is considering joining Grads next year, including drivers from this year's Roadsports and Academy.

If you would be interested in entering (I have no details of race duration(s) or entry fees yet, but I would expect them to be reasonably attractive), please drop me a line.

Nick Frost chairman at graduates dot org dot uk on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 13:40:08

Not sure what BARC will consider the best format if it's a Supers-only qualy race. The slowest dozen perhaps? And if it's Megas and Supers, maybe the slowest eight from each?

NF chair on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 13:22:32

So is it going to be a full grid for the Happy race ?

Ben on Thursday, September 04, 2008 at 13:06:03

Cadwell entries:
Here's the fully up to date listing from BARC.  If you thought you had entered but you are not on this list - or if you have withdrawn and are on the list - please contact Nicola at BARC (01264 882200) ASAP, and me.

The maximum that can practice is 33 cars.  And max 28 to race.  So Supers and Classics will have their own exclusive practice sessions and Supers will have their very own qualy race (or combined Supers/Megas qualy race in the unlikely event of us getting more than 3 late Mega entries), we hope.  So watch here for a slightly amended timetable.
